On March 5, 2010 Shawna Korgan found herself holding the face of her beloved, Grant Korgan. She looked into his eyes as he told her he couldn’t feel or move anything in his body from the belly button down. In that moment, Shawna knew she could not, and would not, give him anything less than the highest version of herself, the version of her which her husband had always empowered her to be. Shawna, a.k.a. “The Na”, would draw upon the love and promises she had made to him, just five months prior on their wedding day in the Yosemite valley.
This situation, the accident, was a circumstance she could have never seen coming, nor prepared for, now threatened to change everything. Pushing beyond the paralyzing walls that were rising all around her, she felt a strength rise up within her, a strength she knew had always been there. She would draw upon her decades of experience as a certified personal trainer, her BS in Health Ecology and her inner voice to take Grant’s recovery head on. She worked with doctors, therapist and non-profit foundations and researchers to devise a rigorous plan which aligned with Grant’s goal of 120% recovery. All along the journey, Shawna integrated traditional forms of therapy with
spiritually inspired techniques, which transported him to the freedom and independence he so cherished.
Through blogs, webinars and private coaching seminars, Shawna empowers individuals, with and without injuries, to reach their health, fitness and life goals. Shawna is currently writing her first book in which she shares her journey in “The Power of Love” as well as developing “The Caregiver Coach’s Guide to Balance, Well-Being and Happiness”.
